Workshops

Alongside the two conference days, the edition ran 8 workshops — 5 for professionals and educators and 3 for children. Registration closed long ago; what remains here are the topics and the people who led them.

  1. 01 03.10 · 16:30 – 18:00 For teachers and pedagogues

3D printing and its applications in school curriculums

A workshop for teachers and academics who are always searching for new and innovative ways of introducing technology to children and of stimulating their creativity. Participants learn how to include the use of a 3D printer in the study programme, and see interesting school projects realised with the help of Ultimaker.

Roberto Vdovic, Fablab.hr 3D creativity laboratorium, John Atanasoff Forum in English

  2. 02 03.10 · 18:15 – 19:45 For children aged 7–13

    Creative workshop for children

A workshop for artistic children. It stimulates their creativity and gives them ideas how to recycle everyday objects into new and interesting pieces with an application different from their original use. With a pinch of 3D printing, a spoonful of electronics and a mouthful of inspiration, toothbrushes turn into tiny robots.

Roberto Vdovic, Fablab.hr 3D creativity laboratorium, John Atanasoff Forum in English

  3. 03 04.10 · 9:30 – 16:30 For professionals · dental medicine

Designing and producing surgical guides with 3D software and a 3D printer

In the era of digital technologies, computer systems take an ever larger place in dental practice. A full-day workshop on applying them as an assistant in everyday practice — for more precise work, more predictable results and shorter treatment procedures.

Dr Nedelcho Sitnov, CityDent 3D creativity laboratorium, John Atanasoff Forum in Bulgarian

  4. 04 04.10 · 17:00 – 20:00 For professionals · jewellery

    3D printing in jewellery

Three hours of inspiration and training for professionals — the full process of design, preparation for 3D printing, printing and post-processing of jewellery. The workshop also covers Formlabs' castable wax resin, which lets the imagination run free and turns any design into a piece.

Anri Hadzhi, B2N 3D creativity laboratorium, John Atanasoff Forum in Bulgarian

  5. 05 05.10 · 14:00 – 15:30 For professionals · engineering

Reverse engineering, 3D documentation and design optimisation

3D scanning is entering manufacturing, the automotive industry and aviation — for reverse engineering, for comparing finished parts against their digital designs, or for 3D documentation. The workshop covers how to scan three-dimensional objects and turn scanner data into editable, usable CAD files, followed by design optimisation in a few simple steps and printing the final result.

Samuil Topalov, B2N, and Felix Radisch, Altair solidThinking 3D creativity laboratorium, John Atanasoff Forum in English

  6. 06 06.10 · 10:30 – 12:00 For children aged 10–14

    Robotics for children

Children get to know the logic behind functional mechanisms and how 3D printing lets them make the parts for a small robot themselves. They work in small groups of two or three and pick the model they build together — inspiration to experiment, and the confidence that they can become inventors.

Dr Ivan Chavdarov, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and Ivelin Stoyanov Laboratories building, ground floor, room 125 in Bulgarian

  7. 07 06.10 · 12:30 – 14:30 For children aged 6–9 and 9–12

    Children's architecture workshop

An exercise in which children travel to the future and describe how they think our city would look. Examples from science-fiction films and technologies that could change the way we live are explored. The little architects first draw their projects, then turn their dreams into three-dimensional models built from waste materials, and finally build a fantastic city of the future together — with stories to go with it.

Children's Architecture Workshop Laboratories building, ground floor, room 125 in Bulgarian

  8. 08 06.10 · 15:00 – 16:00 For professionals · 3D capture

    Photogrammetry workshop

An overview of basic photogrammetry — making measurements from photographs. The input is photographs, and the output is typically a map, a drawing, a measurement or a 3D model of a real-world object or scene. The focus falls on 3D models and three-step processing with Agisoft Photoscan: making the photos, using the software, and the final 3D model. Participants then see advanced photogrammetry in action — positioning the model on a rotating stage in a DIY setting, precision sizing, automatic masking in the software, and imaging the same model with several cameras.

Svetozar Kolesar, 3D Republika, with Yugoslav and Nevena Laboratories building, ground floor, room 125 in English
